Ethan David Evans. That was indeed his full name and normally the only people who used it was his mom and that was usually when she was angry with him or some thing. However lately someone else used it to. Hailley. It was almost like it amused her, calling him by his full name. It was kinda funny though. He always laughed when she did that. Maybe it was because when she said it she got this dramatic look on her face. A look that always made him smile, it never failed. Like now, thankfully Eth had swallowed that French fry that he had stolen because he was laughing quite hard right now. If he hadn't swallowed it then most likely he would have started to choke. Staring her down as his laughter faded he gave her one of his own weird looks, like he was interrogating her or something. "Who gave you the power to say my full name?" He questioned jokingly while keeping the serious look on his face. Joking around was fun, so was teasing people. It was obvious to all of Eth's friends that he was a big tease. He was like the king of joking around. Mr. Joker you might say. Anyways when joking around it was good to be able to hold a straight face. Ethan was usually able to do that. Just not now. Probably because it was Hailley. The previous serious face was slowly replaced by a small smile, a smile he was trying to hide but desperately failing.
Now he wasn't even sure why he liked milk shakes so much. They were incredibly tasty, no doubt about that but he knew himself that he'd much rather just drink plain old white milk. He loved white milk, chocolate did absolutely nothing for him. He just wouldn't drink it, well unless forced too. But still, it wasn't often that he gave in to bribing or pressure. Usually he'd just say no. Yet even though he had this prejudice against chocolate milk he totally loved chocolate milkshakes. Yeah it didn't make much sense but it was a true fact. Another thing that was mildly confusing was why Ethan didn't just make milkshakes at his house. All he needed was a blender, milk, ice cream, and chocolate syrup. It wasn't that hard. Maybe it was because he was always so lazy. Wait that couldn't be it. If it was because of his laziness then why would he put in the effort to come all the way over to the mall to buy one? Maybe some questions were just impossible to answer. Well this one at least. He couldn't figure it out. He just did it. Not sure why but he does. But one thing he did know was that French fries do go well with milk shakes. And cheese burgers! Altogether they made an incredible combo. But alas right now they just had his shake and her fries. It was good enough though, Eth was enjoying them. He figured Hailley was too due to the fact that she was also eating quite a few of them. Although she was in denial. He wanted her to simply admit that he was right for once. That was what he wanted right now. But then surprisingly she did. "See! Told you so" He said with a grin and then watched as she scrunched up her nose. He shook his head as he let out a soft laugh at that.
After asking his question he stayed quiet, waiting patiently for her answer. "Oh nothing much just-" Why had she cut herself off? What was she going to say? But the real question was why wasn't she telling him the full truth. She was hiding something. It was obvious. She never got nervous around him, always told him everything. She knew everything about him and he knew everything about her, or so he thought. Apparently that was wrong, well clearly it was since there was something she was keeping from him. He was suddenly really curious to what it was. It couldn't be a bad thing could it? He hoped not because suddenly he was becoming slightly nervous. But before his worries could become worse she spoke again. This time telling him what she had done. Was it the truth though. He was about to venture this when she said the last thing. About her gaining weight. "Aww come on, you're not gaining weight" He clearly stated as he looked down at her, "You look great" He added with a smile as he gave her a little compliment. As soon as he spoke once more he allowed her to have another sip of his pop and then began to answer her own question. "Well I haven't been up to much, just been playing some video games" He explained but then watched as she got quiet and began staring into his eyes. He looked back down at her and also went silent as she started speaking.
"Listen Ethan....There's something I need to tell you. I love-"
She sighed after that. Okay so maybe this was what had been bothering her moments earlier. She had wanted to tell him this. Yet she hadn't exactly told him yet. The only thing he got out of it was that she was in love with someone. Who was it though? That was the question. The big question in all of this. Who was this guy who had captured her heart. Wait though, why didn't Ethan know about this? He didn't even know that she had been dating someone. Well know he felt like a bad friend. He should have known or at least noticed. There was that factor of her not wanting him to know though. Maybe that was the situation. She didn't want to worry him or something. But now she was coming clean, or trying to. Ethan continued to look down at her, "You love who?" He asked with a comforting voice, trying to hide his curiosity. But then something took his mind off of the current situation at hand. A voice. A very familiar voice. From the tone and words used he knew right away something was wrong. Turning around quickly on the bench Eth's eyes spied none other then Corrie Lowen, his girlfriend, quickly walking away from them. It was clear that she was upset now and he didn't want to let her get away. Looking back at Hailley he spoke quickly and apologetically, "Hold that thought" Then he stood up and went after Corrie. Yes he felt bad about leaving Hailley when she was about to share something with him but Cor was his girlfriend, if she was upset then he wanted to be there with her. "Hey, what's wrong?" He asked with a concerned tone of voice as he gently grabbed onto her arm, trying to make her stop walking so that they could talk.
