Adam Davidson walked out of his math class, books in hand and let out a small yawn. Math was so boring, sure it was easy but he couldn't comprehend how some people actually enjoyed it. It didn't interest him in any way he was more into English class or art class. He had a slight feeling that the math teacher might have known that too, he felt that that explained why the teacher didn't like him. It was almost like the guy had it out for him or something. The teacher would always make him come up to the front of the class and do problems on the board which was something that terrified Adam. Well maybe it didn't terrify him but it really made him nervous. Getting up in front of the whole class, all of those people that disliked him just staring, watching his every move, possibly making fun of him quietly with their friends. It was torture to him. He preferred to stay off his classmates radar's the best that he could. He was pretty good at that too, he was basically a nobody at east high. Just the skater geek, nothing more nothing less. Pushing the earlier math class out of his mind he focused on getting to his locker. Right now he just wanted to put his books away so that he could relax after all it was now his free period. A nice time for a break, he could just forget about working and school for a bit. It wasn't that easy though. When he had reached his locker he began to open it after unlocking the lock. The only thing that had went wrong was the fact that a group of jocks were passing through the halls too. Unfortunately they had spotted Adam and felt the need to pay him a visit. One had pushed him against the locker while calling him a harsh name, the other pulled his scarf from around his neck and threw it across the hall. Such a lovely visit. As this had happened a small groan slipped out from Adam's lips but they finally left him alone. He sighed as he put his books in his locker. Closing it he began to walk in the direction of where one of the jerks had thrown his scarf. Adam saw it laying on the floor so he quickly went over to pick it up.

well you done, done me and you bet I felt it I tried to be chill but you’re so hot that I melted. ------------------------------------ Ximena pushed herself past the groups of people crowding the hallway at east high. Her day was going rather good. She gave a presentation in history, finished up her homework for science and best of all she aced her math final for the semester. Getting perfect on a test was almost impossible for Ximena. Plus she hated math, especially her math teacher. Pretty much all Mrs. Stevenson did during class was assign homework and embarrass students at her class. Not to mention making jokes about students and telling them to other teachers, Ximena had heard one herself & they weren’t funny at ALL. The idea of mocking people at east high was terrible to Ximee. But for some reason Mrs. Stevenson was practically one of the oldest teachers that worked at east high and Mr. Matsui never seemed to notice her cruelty to everybody. (not including the class suckups) Sucking up to people was kind of Ximena’s specialty, however Mrs. Stevenson was definitely not worth sucking up to.
After finally reaching her locker, she noticed a couple of jocks messing around with some person from her grade. She couldn’t make out who it was, but Ximena just assumed that it was someone from one of her classes. Instead of laughing at him like everybody else was, Ximena rolled her eyes at them and walked up to one of the jocks watching the little show. Hitting him on the shoulder, she glared at him. “Jerk.” And with that Ximena turned on the heel of her shoe and walked back to her locker. Basketball jocks always got some sort or praise at east high and it just didn’t seem fair to all of the other people who weren’t athletes. That was pretty much the reason for all of the clique tables at the cafeteria. Nobody sat with somebody out of their clique; otherwise they’d be looked down on or something. Ximee noticed that the jocks were still messing with the guy and his scarf, even after she gave them one of her worst glares ever. Pushing past them, she walked up to where his scarf was and before he could reach for it, Ximena picked it up for him and held it out. “I believe this is yours?” She said. “And don’t worry those guys don’t know a cool scarf when they see when.” Ximena looked at him and smiled, hoping that she was making him feel a tad bit better.

What was so great about jocks? So what if they could bounce around some ball and get it into a basket. It's not like it was that hard to do, it was fairly simple really yet it was almost like people around East High didn't realize that. The students around here would see a jock and basically bow down to them, give them as much praise as they could possibly give. Even the teachers treated them better, well all of them except for Mrs. Darbus, she despised sports and that was obvious to everyone. If you didn't realize that then you must be pretty dense especially since she'd take many trips to visit coach bolton and complain about how his basketball players were doing poorly in her class or messing around when they should be listening. It seemed like it was a constant argument between those too. That was beside the point though. The thing with Mrs. Darbus was that she favored the artistic kids or drama students. Adam didn't mind that at all since he was pretty good at drawing. It was one of the few talents that he had. He wasn't even sure when he first started to take interest in it. When he was younger he hardly ever drew, it just began happening. First it began with him doodling on the margins of his papers the next thing he knew he would always carry a notebook with him to just draw in, make different sketches. It amused him plus one day Mrs. Darbus found them and ever since then she seemed to like him better.
Being an artist didn't amuse his classmates though. Especially the jocks, they still thought of him as a loser. That would probably never change. He would always be known as the loser or geek. It would have to be a back wards universe for him to be considered cool. But since that would never happen Adam would just have to accept the ridicule and abuse that some of the other students gave him. Like now for instance. He wasn't really putting up a fight but then he was weak so even if he did try to fight back it would be no use. Those guys could break him in two, he was very weak and fragile. As they were pushing him he heard a familiar voice. After hearing the voice the guys seemed to walk away leaving him alone now but before he could pick up his scarf someone else had. Ximena, the one who had spoke earlier causing the guys to leave. Adam suddenly felt nervous, not to mention a little shocked. She hardly ever spoke to him and usually if she did speak it wasn't always nice. That was mostly around her friends though. It seemed like she was different when around them. But still, she was talking to him now, she had just sorta stood up for him and now she was handing him his scarf. He took the scarf back from her and looked down at it, letting his thumbs rub against the fabric. "T-t-thanks.." He said timidly still looking away from her. Darn his shyness, he always began stuttering around her. Why couldn't he just once have a normal conversation with her? Maybe he should try saying something else, this might be his only chance. "I'm Adam" He added finally looking up from his scarf and down at her.

well you done, done me and you bet I felt it I tried to be chill but you’re so hot that I melted. ------------------------------------ At the moment Ximena was in between cliques. It was either she was a drama person, or one of the schools 'royalty'. She didn't really like the idea that she practically BFF's with probably the meanest people at East High, but they were her friends and Ximena just wanted to get along with everybody. But even if some of her friends were gossiping about some person in between classes, Ximee did her best to stay out of it. Sure, she occasionally joined in, but that was ONLY if her friendship depended on it. This one time Ximena was stuck reading someones deep, dark secret on the morning announcements. (pretty much against her will) She was stuck doing it and what Ximee did basically ruined that person's reputation for good. To this day Ximena is haunted by the fact that her gossip incident caused that person to transfer to west high. The drama people weren't as cruel to her, though. Ms Darbus wasn't that bad either. Then again, they couldn't be mean to her because Ximena could basically ruin their reputation for good if they did. But with great power, comes with great responsibility and she always kept that in the back of her mind.
Ximena turned her attention back to the guy in front of her. She looked at him once more. Where had she seen him before..? Oh! Now Ximena remembered. He was that guy Samaira was quietly mocking one day at homeroom. It wasn't much of a pretty sight, but Ximena was still kind of apart of that clique and she kind of had to make fun of him. Hopefully they weren't there watching her help him out. T-t-thanks.. She noticed that he was still looking away from her, Ximena rolled her eyes. "I don't bite. Just saying.." She said, jokingly, but in a i'm-not-lying-and-i-mean-it kind of way. Listening to him introduce himself, she nodded. "I know who you are. Student council president, remember?" Ximena could sense that their conversation was going nowhere and had somewhat of an awkward vibe to it. "I'm sorry, but is this as weird for me as it is for you?" She added, looking at him straight in the eye.

So far this conversation wasn't going well at all. Some might describe it as horrible or awkward. Truly he believed it to be both things. Maybe it was because of the odd circumstance that had made them start talking in the first place. It's not like it was a normal event. The only reason that she had really noticed him was because those jerks had been picking on him. If they hadn't been doing that then most likely she would have just walked on by like usual. Another reason might be the fact that Adam was so nervous around her. He couldn't help it. She was so pretty, not to mention one of the most popular girls in school. He was just the insecure geek, girls like her weren't really suppose to talk to guys like him. It was basically a violation of the unwritten status code that East High went by. You were suppose to stick with you clique and not associate with others. It was lame and immature in his opinion yet most people would never go against that little code. They were too scared to lose some of their popularity, things like that. He had a small feeling inside him that Ximena might want to leave him soon. He didn't blame her though, he'd probably want to leave too if he was her but that was beside the point. He didn't want her to leave. Maybe he could just try his hardest to get the stuttering and mumbling out of his system. Try to get rid of his shyness for the moment at least, try to save this conversation.
After making his decision to try and become less shy he just hoped that he would be able to pull it off. Tons of people weren't shy, it couldn't be that hard could it? He'd just have to put more effort into it. Hearing her voice he listened to her speak again, a small smile formed on his lips. He couldn't help it, what she said about her and that she doesn't bite well it was kinda funny. Adam didn't bother saying anything since she had began to continue speaking. He nodded, "Right.." He said his tone still sounding slightly shy but not as much as before. When he heard her next comment he knew that his assumption had been right. She was finding this conversation weird just like he was. Looking away from her again and down at his scarf which was still in his hands he brought it up and put it around his neck like how he had had it earlier. Since the scarf was around his neck again his hands were now free so he shoved them into his jean pockets. That was just a normal thing for him, a habit you might say. Looking back at her he nodded again, "Well yeah it is.. but maybe we could try to make it less weird" Adam said looking straight into her eyes since that had been what she was doing to him. "Can't be that hard can it?" He added as he started to try and control his new found confidence that was beginning to surface.

well you done, done me and you bet I felt it I tried to be chill but you’re so hot that I melted. ------------------------------------ She looked at him and bit her lip. Ximena had no idea what she was doing and why she was talking to him. Secretly she didn't mind it,though. He was a smooth talker, minus the stuttering part and he wasn't a major jerk like most of the guys at east high were. So why was this so weird for her? Well yeah it is.. but maybe we could try to make it less weird. Ximena thought about what he said for a bit. Making it less weird was definitely not what they would be doing. They would be breaking East High's clique status and the last time that happened was freshmen year when some new girl clashed all of the cliques, bringing the jocks & the Einsteins closer together. But after those people graduated everything changed again. New cliques started, old friendships ended and East High was back to being a superficial school with different cliques everywhere you turned. Clearing her throat, she finally spoke up. "If that's actually possible.. I mean, no offense, but do you have any idea what that would do?" Ximena knew it was rather harsh of her, but she just asked him anyway. It was almost like a test for him, just so that Ximena would know for sure if he was a jerk or not. Noticing that he was looking her dead in the eye, Ximena turned her head and looked around her, hoping he would stop doing that. Having him look at her like that felt weirder than Ximena doing it herself. Usually he never spoke to her and Ximena was always the one who made the approach. Sometimes she wondered why she talked to people who her friends never bothered to pay attention to.
Ximena kind of figured out why she did, though. Growing up she had always been wealthy & her family was known to be one of the snobbiest people at Albuquerque. But she noticed they way her parents were acting. They always held their head high and only cared for other people if it was for publicity. Like, last Christmas. Her mom hosted an auction for the children at the shelter downtown. The entire thing was a disaster in Ximena's eyes. There were reporters and photographers everywhere during the day of the auction. She could barely see because of all the cameras flashing in front of her. Ximena hated the fact that her family was so cruel to people who weren't wealthy. And knowing how she shouldn't act, Ximena tried to clear her family's name at school by being far from a snob as she could. With her mission in her mind, she thought about Adam. She barely knew him, but Ximena could TRY and get to know him. It wouldn't hurt, would it?

At East high it was basically unacceptable for you to speak with someone else outside of your clique. Adam had never really understood that rule, why did it matter who you talked to? They were all people, truly no one was better than they other although some people had it in their minds that they were. He felt that they needed to get smacked in the face to come back into reality. They were all equals, it didn't matter what anyone said, it was true. Students at East high had realized that fact before, during freshmen year. Some new girl had moved there and pretty much confused everyone when she started hanging out with the basketball star Troy Bolton even though she was classified as one of those really smart kids. That just sent everybody out of sorts, cheerleaders started hanging out with skaters and jocks began to cook. The real thing that surprised people was the fact that that girl and Troy began dating. Even now, after they had graduated there were rumors that they were still going strong in their relationship. If the social status rule could be broken once wasn't it possible that it could be broken again?
Adam thought about the question Ximena had asked him. He pondered it for a moment, trying to figure out a good answer to give her. He was up for the challenge of trying to break the clique rule again but then he had nothing to lose. He was one of the least popular guys in school, really he just had everything to gain. It was Ximena who really had to make the decision here. She was the popular one. Hanging out with him might ruin her reputation or at least knock her down a few notches on the popularity scale. Maybe she didn't mind that though, she might just be scared to be different. That was possible. Back to her question though, he needed to answer her. "What would it do.." He repeated, "Well it could throw the world into utter chaos, make a rip in the space time continuum or-" He cut himself off and looked at her giving a face that showed that he had clearly been joking, "Those ideas might be a bit too far fetched, I'm thinking that people would just talk but they're gonna talk anyways no matter what happens" He stated as he looked down at her and then over at some other students passing them by in the hallway.

well you done, done me and you bet I felt it I tried to be chill but you’re so hot that I melted. ------------------------------------ Well it could throw the world into utter chaos, make a rip in the space time continuum or- Ximena fake laughed after he cut himself off. But what he said was ALMOST what would happen, just over doing it a bit. She couldn't believe she was actually questioning him about the whole situation. They were just talking in the hall, what harm could that do? Then again, Adam was right about people always talking. Talking wasn't the word for it though. It was more like gossiping. At East High the truth didn't matter much. For all Ximena knew she could just bump into somebody in the hallway and then suddenly she would be dating the person. No matter what gender. East High was pretty crazy that way. Looking at him again, she rolled her eyes, knowing that he was right. "Um. Okay.. So, there are two options. We pretend that this little gathering never existed or we could talk, more? I guess.." Secretly Ximena had no idea why she even considered that second option. They had basically nothing in common, so what would they talk about anyway? School was basically the only thing they COULD talk about. Unless he suddenly took on the interest of shopping, fashion and sun tanning. Which was highly unlikely, even for him.
While waiting for his response, she looked around. To her surprise a couple of her friends were glaring at Ximena half way across the hallway. As they began to approach her, she cleared her throat. "Homework. That's what we're talking about. Homework. I didn't get the assignment in science so Adam here decided to give me the notes." After noticing another glare, she rolled her eyes. "What? He's like really smart. Well compared to me anyway. So there is REALLY no problem here." She said, covering up for the real reason why they were talking. The girls looked at Adam from head to toe. 'Whatever' they said, and with that they disappeared through the hall. Letting out a sigh of relief, Ximena looked at Adam and hit him on his arm. She had the tendency of doing that when she was worried. "Well you were SO helpful back there." Ximena said, sarcastically. "Oh and if you do plan on hanging out with me you should get prepared for a whole lot of sarcasm&whacks on your arm if you keep on being dead silent when they pop out of no where."

It was true. Those things that Adam had said. Sure he took it a little too far but that was just him joking. In all seriousness he was right. People were always gonna talk. Why not give them something good to talk about right? Well wait, as he thought about it he realized that talking might not be the best way to categorize. Really what they did was gossip. It was every wheres, if you were one of the popular kids then you just couldn't escape it. If you were part of the 'it' crowd then you were just naturally a topic of conversation. That wasn't usually a good thing either. People would spend so much time focusing on you, wanting to know things. Rumors were started, secrets let out. Both things usually caused by gossiping. Sometimes it was even hard to figure out who started it all. With the rumors you could never tell, not usually at least but with the secrets, that was different. Even though rumors were a horrible thing sometimes having secrets get out was worse. Especially if they were a really big secret, something you only tell your best friend, thinking that you can actually trust them. Sometimes people were too focused on gossip and didn't care about betraying people. It was hard to think that that was true but it was. For some people anyways. Adam watched as she rolled her eyes and then listened as she began to speak. "Well I'm more fond of that second option but it's up to you. I mean if you want me to leave then I can" Yeah he was really hoping that she'd allow him to stick around and that she'd choose to hang out with him but if she did want to leave he didn't want to keep her. Well he did but if she was uncomfortable then what was the point?
But then while waiting for her reply something happened. Something happened that made Adam begin to feel rather uncomfortable and nervous again. A group of girls had came over to them both, some of Ximena's friends. From their facial expressions Adam could tell that they weren't pleased with her being with him. It was obvious, almost like it was written all over their faces. Well she was probably going to leave him now. Go off with her friends. Most likely that was for the best, they didn't have anything in common. He liked comic books, art, skate boarding and playing video games. It's not like she would like any of that stuff. Then he heard her voice. He looked down at her, hiding his sudden feeling of surprise that had taken over him. Yeah she was making up an excuse to why she was speaking to him but from how it was all coming out it sounded like she wasn't going to leave. The boy was speechless, he didn't know what to say or what to do for that matter. Although that was probably because he was surrounded by pretty girls and his crush. As soon as the group of girls left them Ximena spoke again, saying that he wasn't helpful and such. She also hit his arm."O-ouch! I- er uh" He mumbled basically choking on his words again like how he had when she first came over to him. About to try and actually say something he stopped. if you do plan on hanging out with me. Did she just say that he could hang out with her? She did! His nerves felt fine again. He nodded and allowed a smile to form on his face. Not a small one like he had given her earlier but this time a normal, happy smile. "I happen to enjoy sarcasm so I'm cool with that and well I'll take some self defense classes"

well you done, done me and you bet I felt it I tried to be chill but you’re so hot that I melted. ------------------------------------ The girl sighed, looking down at the ground, unsure of what to do with Adam. He was a nice guy and even though he was nothing like the guys she usually hung out with, Ximena kind of wanted to get to know him more. You don’t go through High School twice so she figured that getting to know everybody at East High would be fun, even if it did cause chaos between all of her friends. But by then she’d probably be friends with the scholastic decathlon people and, or the chess team. Right now it didn’t really sound like a fabulous idea, though. Maybe that was because she didn’t know those people yet. For all Ximena knew, they could be the friendliest people in the world and she wouldn’t know because she didn’t bother to get to know them. However all of this wasn’t because she felt bad for those people who weren’t popular, it was because East High knew Ximena as shallow and she wanted to change that title of hers. Plus she didn’t want to be hated by the entire student body. There were always a few rumors usually buzzing around the hallways about her. Some were completely out of line and others were just a misunderstanding. Either way she was being talked about, whether she liked it or not. Well I'm more fond of that second option but it's up to you. I mean if you want me to leave then I can. Her thoughts disappeared back into her mind as she heard him speak. He was definitely different, that was for sure. But Ximena could deal with different. She was kind of jealous of Adam, actually. He wasn't the kind of person trying to be somebody else just to fit in. At least that was what Ximena had noticed. Adam was his own person and for some reason, she wanted that to. Noticing his smile, she grinned and listened as he spoke. I happen to enjoy sarcasm so I'm cool with that and well I'll take some self defense classes. Ximena nodded and laughed a bit. "Good, good. Because you'll need those classes. You're an easy target." She replied, jokingly.
